Hailing from Queens - New York, Gruv Gallery is a DJ and electronic
music troop, fusing a myriad of genres to create ingeniously fresh
original music. The inventive duo behind the Gruv, DJ /Producer David
D., a.k.a. "D-Gruv" and DJ/lyricist Julia P. a.k.a. "Sambarella" joined
forces in 2001, coming together under the names DJ Seneca and Lady
Apostrophe. The duo quickly established themselves in the New York City
music scene, gaining recognition for their eclectic DJ sets and range,
and ability to excite the ears of diverse audiences, whether at a club,
lounge, rave, fashion or art show.
Shortly after, the duo began exploring ways to enhance their DJ sets
with live elements, with the aim to partner electronic grooves with
instrumentation and vocals. In 2003 they met Big Game James who began
joining the DJs each week, in between sets at their weekly party in
Long Island City, dropping free-style rhymes over hip hop
instrumentals. With three turntables, two mixers and a microphone, Gruv
Gallery was born.
